 Sylvie Leymonie Bazin

 painter artist-bookbinder
born in Périgueux (France)
from a Périgord family
was a bookseller of antique books for 28 years

restorer of old books and documents

trained by the Ateliers d'art appliqués du Vésinet
introduced to painting by Jean-Michel Prudhomme
has created bindings for many artists
her material is paper, her world reading,

 painting, writing

all of which blend together to create her works

which have been regularly exhibited since more than ten years

“Binding is my business, my artistic field, my way of speaking,

my way of doing, my way of thinking.

Binding, like binding, is to tie a knot so as not to forget.

I gather, I gather the description of my attempts, my

failures, I deposit here my aspirations, current events, the arts, language,

religion, history, mythology, nature, poetry,

everyday life.

These column bindings preserve my memory, organize my life,

they collect and protect my volumes, painted scrolls,

my writings, my compilations.

By depositing these documents in these column bindings, I have the

feeling to erase my life, they give me the power

to forget and at the same time to euphorize it. my columns are sealed

The whole purpose of my work is to compose with my melody.

All my bindings are modeled in this way from this doing and

redoing of painting and writing, according to my readings and my essays.“     S.L.
