Paulo Sérgio Nogueira Soares (Paulinho Soares) was born in Anagé, Bahia, in 1966, where he spent his childhood on the banks of the Gavião River. He currently lives and works in Vitória da Conquista, where he maintains his sculpture production workshop.
He began his artistic work in 1980, and eight years later held his first solo exhibition in Vitória da Conquista, Bahia. From then on, he participated in group art exhibitions and organized several solo shows. Driven by creative imagination, his work has always focused on universal themes, where the human figure is represented through the lines and contours of wood.
Great artists and their works have served as inspiration for Soares' artistic development, such as Remedios Varo and M.C. Escher, as well as the philosophical and cultural influences of Walter Benjamin, Italo Calvino, and Pierre Verger.
His works are part of private collections and public institutions, including Banco do Brasil, Banco do Nordeste, the Public Library of Vitória da Conquista, SESC, Memorial Casa Regis Pacheco, Tempo Glauber Memorial, and the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia.
