Paulo Sérgio Nogueira Soares (Paulinho Soares) was born in Anagé/BA in 1966, where he spent his childhood on the banks of the Gavião River. He currently lives and works in Vitória da Conquista, where he maintains his sculpture production workshop. He began his work in 1980 and eight years later organized his first solo exhibition in Vitória da Conquista/BA. From then on, he participated in art collectives and held several solo exhibitions. Driven by his creative imagination, his work has always focused on universal themes, in which the human figure is represented in the lines and contours of the wood. Great artists and their works served as inspiration for the development of Soares' works, such as Remédios Varo, M.C. Escher, in addition to the philosophical and cultural influences of Walter Benjamin, Italo Calvino and Pierre Verger. His works are in private collections and in public institutions such as Banco do Brasil, Banco do Nordeste, Municipal Public Library of Vitória da Conquista, SESC, Memorial Casa Regis Pacheco, Museu Tempo Glauber and Museum of Modern Art of Bahia.
