Maria Kucia-Albin was born in 1956 in Wrocław, Poland, and has been a permanent resident of Warsaw since 1960. She graduated from the State High School of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 1975 and later completed her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław in 1980, where she specialized in graphic design and scenography.
From 1980 until 2022, Maria worked as a scenographer for TVP, the Polish national television broadcaster. During her tenure, she created hundreds of scenographies for various productions, including TV theaters, stationary theaters, and entertainment programs aimed at children and youth. Her contributions to the arts extend beyond scenography; she is also an accomplished painter, having participated in numerous collective and individual exhibitions both in Poland and internationally.
Maria is married to Andrzej Albin and is the mother of a son, Cezary Albin. In addition to her visual art, she has authored novels and written lyrics for children's songs. Her works are part of individual collections in Poland and abroad, reflecting her broad artistic impact.
Although she spent the majority of her professional life as a scenographer, painting remains her enduring passion and a means of escape from everyday life. Through her artwork, Maria expresses her current thoughts and desires, often drawing from trends in magical realism and surrealism, though her style is not limited to these genres. She enjoys exploring new forms of expression and addressing topics that captivate her interest. Much like her scenographic work, Maria’s paintings resist monotony and repetition; her diverse subjects and forms showcase her creative evolution and desire for continual exploration within her art.
