Foster’s FW/SS (2014) is a body of work, whose title is taken from fashion campaigns’ designation of the seasons: fall, winter, spring, summer. The first element of the work is a collection of fashion photographs taken from different fashion magazines posted online. Through digital manipulation, the photographs are recreated to censor and highlight the omnipresent sex appeal typically portrayed by women in contemporary fashion.
With references to Pop Art, the choice of color depicted in this body of work create an appealing acceptance to these images aesthetically. The allure of the work through color and composition allows the approval of fashion photography’s explicit nature. By digitally collaging and appropriating images from fashion photography, the work manifests the female audience’s inevitable adaption of these concepts of beauty and self identification, which have become (sub)conscious stereotypes in our society and daily lives through the repetition of advertising.
