Born in 1972 in Moulins, lives and works in Auvergne.
Jean-Philippe Degraeve is a painter, essentially non-figurative.
Going against the current of ambient cynicism, easy provocation and deliberately sloppy pictorial gestures, carried by a stubborn spiritual quest, he maintains the tradition of an art in search of Beauty, of a work not of immediacy but developed over the days.
The cohabitation in his being of extreme sensitivity and frenzied optimism makes the singularity of the man and the artist: he is not a skinned soul, but a tender heart which fights in the quest for light .
Indeed, we find in his works, pastels, watercolors, inks or pigments on canvas, this quasi-fascination for light, sought after, captured, praised.
The colors that he harmonizes while playing with transparency, are the expression of his own spiritual feelings and of what he captures from a cosmos that goes beyond him.
