Artegambasin
I wanted to make a book not just a page in my paintings, I was a Surrealist before I knew the movement.
Giovanni Gambasin lives and works in Canada where he stands out for his unique approach to surrealism. A versatile artist, he uses pencil on cardboard and oil on wood to create works imbued with mystery and depth. His technique, combining precision of drawing and richness of painting, allows him to explore imaginary worlds where reality is transformed into a waking dream. Inspired by the surrealist visions of the masters of the genre, Gambasin develops captivating compositions that question the perception of reality and fantasy. Each piece reflects his quest for meaning through intriguing juxtapositions and meticulous details.

Gambasin's artistic curiosity has repeatedly met with "I numeri": abstract reality, a structure that is complex and simple at the same time, eternal, infinite, but ephemeral, in search of their character and their structure. Numbers have at the same time the dimension of infinity and that of everyday life and Gambasin tries in his painting to interact with their forms and their angularity. This research integrates Gambasin's surrealist approach to life-death/reality dream and the theme of sexuality, which often appears as a nuanced background in his works. But in this case the theme of sexuality emerges overwhelmingly because the painter has decided to challenge the immortality of numbers thinking of giving their form a "consistency... sexual".So the desecrated (or consecrated) number becomes erotic support, it somehow becomes the "coat hanger" to hang sexual organs and erotic gestures. Strange... and surreal reading of numbers!!!! It is a surprising customization born perhaps echoing a little 'Arcimboldo, in its use of fruits and vegetables to create faces.

With this poster Giovanni Gambasin presents his solo exhibition of 1987 in Venice. St. Mark's Square stands out with its bell tower and the Bridge of Sighs, two symbols that represent the city. The first is a theatre of meetings, daily life and celebrations, the second a passage towards suffering. Almost opposite realities that coexist, intertwine and blend, as do the bodies, naked and sensual, depicted in attitudes of enjoyment and pain. The mask over the bridge of Sighs suggests the desire to escape the rules of reality, to be able to be anyone you want in a fantasy world, perhaps a dream that lives in the deepest unconscious and where desires, fears, ancestral instincts are kept. GEBURTSSCHMERZ

Was beim ersten Hinschauen als anmutiges Musikinstrument erscheint, hinterlässt beim näheren Betrachten in hohem Maße Irritationen.
