Camille Escudero, born in 1977, lives and works in France, where she develops a multidisciplinary artistic practice that includes drawings, performances and videos. Raised shelling chestnuts in the Arago district of Pessac (33), her career is marked by a series of jobs and roles as varied as they are unusual.
Successively weeder of a potato field in Cuba, chambermaid inspired by Merleau-Ponty in Bordeaux, security agent and cockroach crusher in a fast-food restaurant in Toulouse, rump twister in the European Area, choreographic assistant at the Theater of the Champs-Elysées in Paris, an alcoholic extra for Michael Haneke at the Opéra de la Monnaie in Brussels, and recently a rot remover for the embruns of Pointe du Raz as well as a funeral flowerer, Camille has navigated through diverse experiences that nourish his artistic work.
His practice of Indian ink drawing is an attempt to capture on paper the “angels’ part” of his performative and videographic works. This medium, initially interstitial, has become more and more invasive, occupying a corner of his office while his digital montages are finalized. His drawings explore the kinematics of writing, the graphics of language, its movement and its deployment in space.
Camille Escudero's work is a relentless quest to understand and express the strangeness and complexity of human existence. His drawings, often abstract, are a reflection on the dissolution of faces in the glyphs of a forgotten language, creating a fusion between the visual and the textual. This exploration results in works that question and seduce, inviting the viewer into deep and introspective contemplation.
