Non avevo mai visto edifici così mastodontici come i capannoni della stazione di Milano.
Mi svegliò mia madre dal viaggio notturno che ci aveva portato lì, in quel fantastico mondo che era la
stazione centrale; mia madre, come sempre, timorosa di essere criticata, ci aveva vestito, me e mio fratello,
con cappottini color cammello e baschetto marrone. Allora noi ragazzini di altra latitudine, vestivamo
calzoncini corti.
Qualcuno ci fece la foto.
Finalmente salimmo sulla coincidenza che portava all’alto lago; di lì con la corriera avremmo raggiunto la
meta.
Stavamo andando in uno dei posti più belli d’Italia, peccato che piovesse e tutto era cupo sembrando
inospitale; il lago quando piove è grigio, come è grigio il celo e le case e gli alberi.
In albergo mia madre pianse sommessamente; mi avvicinai ed ella mi strinse forte, forte.
