Dal piccolo belvedere che superava il colmo del tetto, guardavo la città che mi circondava
rammaricandomi quasi di non avere più occhi per assorbire, quasi bere, tutte insieme quelle
immagini: i tetti irregolari, fatti apposta per piacere e i campanili che svettano snelli o tozzi a
servizio dei pochi fedeli del mattino. Ed ecco il sole che improvvisamente vernicia di luce tutto ciò
che emerge. In alto il cielo azzurro ed in basso tutto oro. Questa è l’Italia, mi vien da dire e lo
ripeto: questa è l’Italia.
