Stjepan Šandrk is a prominent figure in Croatian contemporary art, renowned for his hyperrealistic paintings that explore how culture and art are experienced in today's social media-saturated society. Born in Osijek in 1984, Šandrk graduated with a degree in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in 2006 and completed a PhD in Art at the same institution in 2015.

Šandrk's work is characterized by a distinctive painterly precision, meticulous detailing, and a refined awareness of current media and social events. His figurative paintings capture and transpose visual details from the camera onto canvas with a refined artistic sensibility, creating captivating narratives that blend thematic, compositional, and color mastery. He infuses his reinterpretations with a unique and communicative touch, consistently developing a recognizable signature style within the realm of figurative painting.

Throughout his diverse body of work, Šandrk addresses various topics, from scenes within the art world and the phenomenon of selfies and spectacle to the media and digital worlds. His latest cycle, "Images from the Metaverse," skillfully mixes the virtual and real, symbolically conveying how technological advances such as the internet, digital media, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and augmented reality are increasingly becoming integral to everyday life, transforming society and capturing more of our time and attention.
