Dutch artist Rick Fraterman makes colorful figurative paintings, drawings, detailed architectural models and small objects. The human condition, defined as the time we have on this planet and how we live out that time, seems to be his drive to create. What we do in between birth and death while we are struggling our way through daily life in our search for balance and peace.

He starts working without any goal. Content and meaning happens along the way. His artworks are filled with contemporary pop-culture references, allusions to art history, movies, magazines, cartoons and images from social media platforms. He adds objectives to create a more layered and diffused narrative without a clear conclusion.

His goal is to make things look better, nicer, more innocent, less hostile and always uses humour as a conductor.
