Pierre Soufflet, born in 1963 in Amiens, is a self-taught artist who lives and works in France. He mainly uses acrylic on canvas, paper and wood, and is part of the art brut movement. Influenced by figures such as Basquiat, Combas, Dubuffet and Saura, Soufflet developed a distinctive style that also draws inspiration from primitive arts.

Having graduated in mathematics at the age of 24, Pierre Soufflet taught in a high school in Amiens and worked at Ésiee, an engineering school, where he specialized in probability and algorithms. Alongside his academic career, he has explored the art world since 2010, the year he began exhibiting his works.

Soufflet's interest in primitive arts dates back to the 1990s, during which he began collecting African and Oceanian masks. In 2009, he produced his first reinterpretations of Kodiak and Dogon masks, creating works from assemblies of bubble wrap, metal rods, plaster strips and acrylic paint.

2011 marks the start of his exhibitions, attracting the attention of Belgian gallery owners and collectors. Thanks to the Internet, Soufflet also attracted the interest of galleries abroad, particularly in the United States. His style then evolved towards drawings and monotypes, then towards hybrid paintings mixing painting, collage and sculpture. In 2012, his works were officially listed at auction at the Hôtel Drouot in Paris.

Pierre Soufflet also collaborates with French and Irish designers, creating decorative objects and clothing. In 2017, his creations were shown on the Irish television channel RTE. In 2016, he turned to portraits made in ink and acrylic, strongly inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Antonio Saura.

In June 2018, he exhibited near Reims alongside Mauro Corda, a great contemporary sculptor. Since then, Pierre Soufflet has collaborated with The Linocut Gallery in London and continues to exhibit in Asia thanks to the FNG Art Gallery in South Korea. His work, internationally recognized, testifies to his constant evolution and his incessant quest for new forms of artistic expression.
