Patrick Berthaud is a contemporary French sculptor who has devoted himself entirely to the art of sculpture since his teenage years. His career began in 1988, working on the construction sites of historic cathedrals as part of the Historic Monuments initiative. Berthaud has contributed to prestigious restoration projects, including the cathedrals of New York, Reims, Amiens, and Strasbourg. In 2001, he established his own studio, where he divides his time between monumental public commissions, contemporary creations, and private orders.
Berthaud has earned a strong professional reputation, taking on major commissions such as the De Gaulle/Churchill monument in Calais, the Anatole Le Braz monument in Carhaix, and the Camille Claudel statue in Montauban. He also created the statue of Olympia for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. In his contemporary work, he has long explored the theme of labyrinths, symbolizing the human search for meaning and purpose in life. His sculptures balance form and content, carrying a message beyond aesthetic beauty.
His works are exhibited in France, Great Britain, and Belgium, and are part of private collections in France, Great Britain, Switzerland, and the United States. Berthaud has exhibited regularly in regional and international shows, including New York (1991), Monaco (2003), Paris (2004, 2005), Barcelona (2006), Montreux (2007), Fribourg (2008), and Luxembourg (2009, 2014).
