Franco Navarro
Born in 1978, in Floriana, Malta, Franco Navarro started his artistic training at the Malta Society of Arts (MSA) in Valletta and continued his studies at the Malta School of Art (SOA) also in Valletta. In 2004, he received a B.A. Honours Degree, followed by a master’s degree in 2010 History of Art from the University of Malta. Navarro’s research focussed on Hospitaller armour decorations alongside Renaissance artistic techniques, chivalric iconography and the industry of printmaking.
To further his artistic skills, Franco studied portraiture under Noel Azzopardi in 2016 and subsequently enrolled at the Atelier Fröman, Zabbar in 2018 where he was initiated in figurative realism including sight-size drawing, use of a limited palette and glazing in oils, by Swedish Maestro Karl Fröman.
Navarro had held five solo exhibitions and participated in a number of collectives. The first expo was held at the Castile Wine Vaults in Valletta, titled Study for the Future, 2004. A second one materialised in 2007 at Heritage’s Malta Head Office, in Valletta. January 2012 saw Fáfnir, mounted at the Auberge d’Italie, where now is MUZA Malta’s National Art Community Museum. In 2015 he organised a Mosta at Ir- Razzett tal Markiz, entitled Passionate Turmoil. November 2021 Act Aeon, at the Malta Postal Museum Culture and the Arts, Valletta.
