In "Bridging Realities," my canvas unfolds with a central horizontal beam/bridge spanning its width—a symbolic divider and unifier between two distinct worlds. The upper half showcases a cityscape that weaves an illusion of an underworld as if the city is erected on stilts and supported by unseen pillars—a concealed narrative of structure and foundation. On the lower half, pillars rise surrounded by water, a grand staircase on the right closed off at the top with a cord, and perhaps distant silhouettes add depth to the background.

I began with the bridge, painting it in rich copper tones, seamlessly transitioning into the rest of the composition executed in acrylic. Here and there, I applied strategic accents with an acrylic marker, adding nuanced details to guide the viewer's gaze and punctuate the scene.

Not everyone peers through the bridge, adding an enigmatic dimension to the narrative. In the underworld in the foreground, a young girl captivates the complete scene. She stands on what seems like a quay, her hand cradling a teddy bear's paw that hangs toward the ground. It appears she's observing from this unique vantage point, surrounded by other teddy bears scattered here and there, creating a whimsical and nostalgic atmosphere.

The title, "Bridging Realities," encapsulates my exploration of urban landscapes and the mysterious connections between layers of reality. The bridge becomes a visual metaphor, prompting contemplation on the concealed frameworks that uphold our bustling cities. The mixed-media approach mirrors the complexity of the cityscape, with each element contributing to the overall tapestry of the artwork.

With "Bridging Realities," I hint at a convergence point where the separation between worlds blurs, suggesting a deeper connection or interdependence. The painting invites you to perceive beyond the surface, encouraging contemplation of the intricate dance between the visible and the concealed. Much like navigating through a city's layers, my artistic process involves unveiling hidden nuances and creating a visual narrative that resonates with your journey through urban landscapes.

Hi there! I'm Martine, the creative and versatile energy behind IM'Art. I live and work in the heart of Utrecht at Kas&Co on the Veemarkt, a place that embraces my creative world and offers me inner peace. This special location serves as both my home and studio, where the magic of art comes to life. IM'Art is nestled in a multigenerational community, with several artworks adorning the "Kas" (greenhouse), our communal space.

As a highly sensitive person and artist, I have always felt a deep connection with my surroundings and emotions. My challenging upbringing has shaped my life in ways that are difficult to put into words. I grapple with ADHD symptoms and the traits of a gifted mind, making me sensitive to stimuli and creating challenges in maintaining focus.

In my early twenties, I dedicated five years to art lessons, including a year at the School of Art in the United States, focusing on portraits and nature. Life led me to a career and family, but my creativity persisted in stories, illustrations, and music. Resuming painting last year, my art mirrors experiences, emotions, and the balance of a creative soul finding expression on canvas.

I capture cityscapes from various places through my unique lens, painting impressions of togetherness and other urban scenes. Often, I depict a person alongside an animal in a figurative style, expressing human emotions, connections, and the relationship between humans and nature. Painting provides me with focus and deeper meaning in my life. My work vividly reflects the world as I experience it—full of color, dynamism, and emotion. Through my eyes, Utrecht and other cities come alive: their iconic elements, hidden corners, and unique atmospheres. These artworks are personal narratives and memories, captured on canvas for everyone to discover and experience.

My artistic journey is a lively exploration that has evolved me into a versatile artist. Each creation at IM'Art holds a unique energy, reflecting the 'True Colors' of my soul. My creative process often starts with a charcoal sketch, with backgrounds crafted in acrylic paint, unfolding through a blend of media.

Beyond painting, I am also a composer and writer. As 'Sofie Weber,' my musical creations and the tales of Sofie & Pawgles come to life through illustrations. Open to commissions, my art spans cityscapes, dreamscapes, portraits, and pet portraits. Drawn to my style? I'm here to bring your vision to life.

Thanks for joining me on this artistic journey. Let's paint the world a little more beautiful together.

Warm regards, Martine Weber
