I've praised Lucie's art before and will again I'm sure because she has mastered a not usually genre of art that I call 'Female Aspirational Art. This form eschews conventions of rendering and preparatory skill in favor of an exploration of the purest possible expression of a common internal drive and perspective that emerges to challenge the world that dismisses it (in my opinion out of prejudice and fear of acknowledging groundbreaking challenge it presents to the authoritarian girders upholding dominant culture in our current, flailing and self-consumed world. If honest, critics of this genre will admit that it, seems naive, the product of adolescent minds not yet aware of the greater bestiality of the world in which we live. It does not show innocence cowed by the monster's den of deceit and iniquity that is about to debase and devour this sweetness and force it to repent that it was ever so pure and unsullied. And in answer, I say, "Exactly!" That is part of what makes it so profoundly revolutionary! This is not soiled humanity reaching for something ideal hoping it will lift them from the mud and filth. This is innate humanity seeking a way to emerge into that debased world as a spirit uncorroded. looking for an opening in which her girl's ideals can survive and find either prosperity or at least a refuge from the chaos that surrounds he. I have found examples of this genre all over the world. I believe it is a natural expression of a part of reality we too readily dismiss because we have adopted thin but strong veneers of sophistication to hide the horror of. Sensing the treat this art places our methods of coping under what we have seen and heard about. These are visions coming from a not yet broken matrix, we dismiss it rather than seeing what lies beyond that veil of hanging willows. Follow one of these flowing haired beauties but once. Let her guide you to what might be and you will never see this style of art the same again.

This caught my eye as an example of 'Art of the female perspective on being female,' an underappreciated genre that I anticipate as becoming and deserving to become more appreciated. I'm not female, so Im just guessing here, but i think that the reflection shows the same point of view, with turned away face is significant, the care in creating a background is significant, and everything about this is significant, carefully selected and carried out in a consistent manner to express an internal sense of what it is like to be this person or what this person may aspire to. I usually call this "Female Aspirational Art". I've been paying attention to it for decades and though it doesn't hit a lot of the traditional points for praise ... those points were invented by stupid males (like me) who've never had an adequate understanding of women. I think this is important art and if you are collecting, Giglio is practically giving these away. I've praised her work before, but this is something beyond the usual in this genre. Lucie: Keep up what you are doing. Maybe someday the rest of us will catch up.

This artist's work is an example of a movement in art that has not yet established its true importance. Often somewhat naive so far as the criteria of representational or modern arts are concerned, it is a true art of the people and specifically of the feminine among us. I believe that these are true, honest, genuine expressions of part of what is different between men and women, a window into what makes women, women. We are, in many and maybe most societies, still in the exploratory period of female equality and this is part of the process by which women are asserting their views and their right to take an equal stance in the shaping of civilization. 100 years ago and up to the present, art that looked similar to this has been dismissed as, 'just the fantasy-doodles of young girls', a matter of no significance in the world of art. I've been studying this genre for fifty years and I'm announcing that this isn't "just" anything. THIS is one of THE artistic expressions of young girls and adult women, girls and women in the process of becoming half of the future's leaders in almost every aspect of social evolution and that makes it a profoundly important genre in art and every other aspect of civilization. Take a second look at this artist's work. It lacks much of the cultivated conventions of representationalism in the male dominated tradition of the Academies. The figures are simple and show little knowledge of anatomy, shading, perspective, direct observation, mechanics, etc., but look also at the care and effort in developing the often-abstract backgrounds, costuming, accessories. The newer figures are faceless, but in earlier pieces we see that Giglio can draw faces ... so this looks to me like a deliberate decision. Everything about these works looks deliberate and I think it says that Giglio is reaching deep within herself and drawing out the purest, most honest vision of her values and views that she can, so far. I can't understand it, I can only make guesses based on my male perspective and experience studying other female artists working in similar styles. But as a male, I can see that this is different, it is mysterious to me, but similar imagery appears in every society I've had a chance to study, and we all need to recognize and value it.
