A long time ago, during a cold night of February 1966, in France, a baby was born. She was blue. She was me. Why blue? Luckily, I was not a baby Smurf. Too bad I was not an alien. I simply needed oxygen: the birth was too long for me, and for my mother.
In spite of the lack of oxygen, everything seemed fine with me. Everything? Is it possible that this quite difficult beginning in life is responsible for my problems finding a carrier that fitted me? Because, you know, I always wanted to do something significant in my life, doing my part for the wealth of the human being…
At the age of 8 years old, I had a revelation. I knew absolutely, I was completely sure, what job I really wanted to do: a Doctor! Yes, an MD Physician.
Well, this part of my dreams didn’t ended exactly as I wish. I finally ended being a dentist. I’m not going to bore you with the details why I ended saving teeth instead of lives. But I can tell I gave up under pressure.
Anyway, It took me about 15 years (6 years of study, 9 years of practice) to admit to myself I made a big mistake. To be honest, dentistry had at least one significant reward: I met my husband on a dentist chair. He was on the dentist chair, and I was making holes in his tooth. So romantic! No, I’ve never dreamed of something so special.
So I got married in 1994, in Israel. I moved to Israel in 1992. I had hard time finding a carrier but in my erratic way, I found a marvelous husband and a marvelous country. And I love them both.
Anyway, immediately after we got married, we left for California for one year. I took my first class in drawing and painting there.
Then we came back. We had two beautiful daughters. I worked as a dentist. But after a long hesitation period, I decided to drop dentistry. I felt I should hurry up to achieve my dreams in the lifetime I had left. I began to study at “the studio” in Raanana and started practicing aikido.
It took time but painting became my main occupation.
In 2003, I joined painting and aikido by painting aikido.
In 2006, we had another beautiful daughter. Some people don’t know about diversification… Motherhood had always been my priority. I didn’t choose it. I can’t help it. But fortunately babies grow up and become little girls. So in 2009, I came back painting.
Now I’m painting landscapes, flowers and people. I’m pretty sure I’m not done with painting aikido.
Did I make a good choice by quitting dentistry for painting? From the humanity point of view, there are probably more people who need a tooth filling, than people who need a painting. Let’s say that, at least, I’m very happy not being a dentist.
Am I satisfied being an “artist”. Well, sometimes I have the feeling that the painting is good, and it makes me happy.
And sometimes, I’m not so happy. I’m looking for something, I don’t know what exactly I’m looking for, but I probably won’t stop.
