Ilse Joris was born in Leopoldstad (1958), currently Kinshasha in Congo. She lives in Kontich in the province of Antwerp.  

As a former teacher of ethics, she is very commited with social themes. The spectator is encouraged to come out of his comfort zone.  A lot of her art works has disjointed objects at first sight. This invites the spectator to look with other glasses to art.  

Ilse obtained the degree of psychologica assistant. The human psyche, connection and existential doubts of people are returning elements in the art works of Ilse.  

At the art Academy of Hove she succeeded in 2016, with high distinction, the mastery of drawing. The influence of her teacher, the famous Gideon Kiefer, is never far away.

At the moment she is following a five year multidisciplinar course, named ‘project’.
