About the author
Sara Waisburd is a contemporary artist whose journey into the world of art began with dance. Her early experiences as a dancer significantly shaped her artistic sensibility, enhancing her awareness of the volume of objects within a given space. It wasn't until 1971 that Waisburd formally commenced her artistic studies at the Mahon Avni Institute in Tel Aviv, where she focused on painting and ceramics.
After returning to Mexico, Waisburd expanded her artistic repertoire by studying printmaking, sculpture, and painting. Over the years, she has participated in more than 60 exhibitions, both in Mexico and internationally, showcasing her evolving exploration of abstract art.
Waisburd's work engages with the visual language of shape, form, color, and line, creating compositions that exist independently from literal visual references. Her approach reflects a broader shift in Western art that began in the late 19th century, moving away from the rigid perspectives of the Renaissance and embracing the fundamental changes in technology, science, and philosophy. This evolution paved the way for various movements, including abstract art, non-figurative art, non-objective art, and non-representational art, all of which resonate with Waisburd's practice.
Through her unique artistic perspective and background, Sara Waisburd continues to contribute to contemporary art, exploring themes of abstraction and challenging traditional boundaries.
