In shadows cast by unseen suns, A figure leans, its form undone. No head to bear the weight of thought, Yet whispers linger, battles fought.
Emotion etched in curves and lines, A dance of pain, where silence binds. The void within, a chasm wide, Where tears and memories collide.
Lean back, oh fragile frame of clay, Embrace the ache that won’t decay. Anonymity, your shroud and shield, In absence blooms a truth revealed.
For beauty lies in brokenness, In leaning toward the abyss. And though the headless gaze remains, It speaks of sorrows, joys, and pains.
“LEANN South”, your mystery unfolds, A sculpture’s tale, untold and bold. In absence, find your voice, your song, And let the echoes carry on.

Emmanuel Okoro is a contemporary Nigerian sculptor. His interest in storytelling and themes of tribal ancestry, humanity, legacy and immortality are consistent threads that weave their way through his practice and continue to inspire the evolution of his narrative.
Okoro pares down to reveal the essence of a state of being, oneness and relationship or of a moment; whether dancing, expectant, or restful. With his sculptures Okoro simplifies the forms to achieve clear lines, smooth and organic textured surfaces, while playing with the scale and proportion of specific features within figurative sculptures.
Emmanuel Okoro was born in 1972, in Nigeria. He lives and works in London, where he graduated sculpture from the University of the Arts London.
