Ebenezer Borlabie
Born in Accra, Ghana, Ebenezer Borlabie, or simply Borlabie, is a prolific artist with his highly recognizable street scenes and galloping horsemen paintings. During his childhood, his inert ability to tangibly express ideas, views, imaginations, forms, and scenes around the household gave birth to the desire to draw, a skill he practices constantly, even to this day. Borlabie have exhibited in many group and sole art exhibitions in Ghana, South Africa and many countries in Europe.
Light is a motivation for my paintings. I adhere to themes that revolve around ideas, inanimate objects, scenes, moments and beliefs that emanate from my African background.
I express this light through a meticulous process of leaving part of my canvas blank, but interspersed with images that follow my theme at that moment. My paintings reflect feelings and images in my sub-conscious.
I sometimes employ the use of acrylic paint and a palette knife during my painting process, which gives an impressionistic feel rather than overwhelming the details.
My painting process does not entail initial studies or sketches. This affords me the flexibility to develop my ideas throughout the process, drawing inspiration from a myriad of sources as and when it happens.
