Zofia Kubicka is a Polish sculptor.

Zofia Kubicka is a performer, author of educational projects, co-founder of the Otwarta Pracownia Twórcza Foundation, but above all a sculptor, in whose work we find not only this sensitivity, but also extraordinary amounts of subtlety and even poetry. The author was born in Gołdap (East Poland) in the mid-1960s. In 1994 she completed her studies in the sculpture studio of Prof. Jan Kucz at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She creates both small sculptural forms and garden sculptures (these can be found in the castle and park complex in Leszno).

Her works are mostly in private collections all over the world (Poland, Spain, USA, Italy, England).

The artist’s cultural background is a collection of many cultures from which she draws artifacts and whose mysticism can be seen in everything she creates. The sculptor is deeply inspired by the Slavic culture and its not self-evident relationship between man and nature.

Zofia Kubicka often takes up strongly feminized themes such as motherhood and intimacy. She has the rare ability to grasp the archetypes of the feminine through the prism of the everyday. It happens that the viewers find themselves in the vitally unideal forms of the female body created by the artist. This proves the exceptional talent of the author.

When looking at her works, it is impossible to overlook certain “vibrations” between the work and the space in which she is located. The softness and delicacy of the artist’s artistic language, the creation of sculptural structures, is marked by personal experiences. She does not create realistic works, but an illusion. The viewer feels connected to the energy of existence. In her works, she discovers the reality of subtle ideas through the economical gestures of the depicted figures and sculptural situations.

Rarely does she give the faces of the created figures an expression that shows emotions other than concentration or indifference; The sculptor uses a gesture, a movement full of mystical sensitivity, to express emotions.

It is also worth mentioning the author’s creative process: nothing in her works is random  – even completely undeveloped details play an important role in the message she wants to reach. After the Muses have blessed the sculptor with the vision, she devotes herself to the creation of forms.

Zofia Kubicka expresses her sensitivity to many materials, but her favorite is bronze; both because of its durability and because of the kind of elusive warmth it emits.
