As if man and vegetation merged, as if there was an embrace between tradition and fantasy, where the birds of the sky and the fish of the stream blur and become one and many at the same time creating in its harmonic fusion a creature that incorporates in itself all ancestors, progenitors and descendants, past, present and future.
I take as inspiration "La Manigua Cubana", my birthplace and that of my aboriginal ancestors, my grandmother of Taino origins.
The term Manigua which gives title to this series is of Taino origin of the aborigines who inhabited the Greater Antilles especially the island of Cuba which is defined in the dictionary as 1. Disorderly abundance of something, confusion, intricate question, or 2. Impenetrable tropical swamp forest.
In my work in this series I was influenced by artists such as Wilfredo Lam.
