Victoria Wallace
Victoria Wallace is a contemporary Canadian artist. Her conceptual mixture of realism and fantasy in her painting practice was shaped by the ‘trompe l’oeil’ influence mastered during her many years of mural painting. In her artwork, she skillfully creates surrealistic narratives by juxtaposing realistic subject matter within fantastical scenarios. These narratives unfold within diverse settings such as urban and natural landscapes, fairgrounds, residential interiors, and more. She derives immense joy from the subtle humor and hidden messages covertly embedded in her artworks, waiting to be "discovered" by the viewer.
For more than four decades, Victoria Wallace has displayed her paintings in a variety of venues including art galleries, exhibitions, and art festivals. Her artwork has graced spaces in Toronto, Mississauga, Peterborough, Cobourg, Haliburton, Warkworth, and has also been showcased online as well as in her personal art studio located in Peterborough. The impact of her work extends beyond these exhibitions as her pieces have found their way into private collections across Canada, the United States, and Europe.

View allIn applying this inspiration to my artistic practice, my work is often driven by the connection I’ve make with my topic. As each piece of my artwork develops and my connection to it deepens, I somehow become detached from myself, my hands moving faster than my mind; I am reduced to the simple transporter of the message that first inspired me.
My artwork is also medium driven; I relish the random intention each brush stroke instills in the creation of my art.
The human energy imparted by the viewers of my artwork feeds a part of the inspiration I am forever discovering. I pick up on the reaction of each individual to my paintings. The observers' emotional and spiritual connection to my work infuses a synergy into each piece of art I produce.

Chimirage...the illusion continues ~ The Ashburnham Ale House presents: New Work by Victoria Wallace
Ashburnham Ale House, 128 Hunter Street East, Peterborough, Ontario. Open 8am to 11pm, 7 days a week.
Continuing in a theme inspired by circuses, amusement parks and commedia dell'arte, Victoria's works address the playful, mystical sometimes macabre fantasy dream-world of these often surreal characters and settings. See Wallace's original encaustic and acrylic paintings this November and come back in the month of December to seethe continuation of Chimirage, featuring the photography of Roz Hermant.
