Vera Marques was born on March 23, 1956 in Rio de Janeiro. She dedicates herself to symbolic figurative surrealist painting, where she represents a personal and contemporary vision, breaking the barrier of reality, showing the vision of the world, against realism and logic.
Vera Marques recovers feminine values, paints feminine polarity in a magical way and “fights” with her works the suffocation of figurative painting. She has been scoring points, especially because she knows and feels symbolism like no one else. And whoever sees her paintings feels it. She began her studies by attending the studio of painter Hilário Silva Neto, and other artists, where she received all her technical initiation; seeking new trends that she could share with her individuality.
Vera Marques, with a wonderful practical sense, “took advantage” of this passage to acquire the technique that today makes her paintings works recognizable at first sight, unmistakable and unique. She soon began painting professionally and has never stopped. Proof of this are the exhibitions she has held over the years, which have always been a huge success.
A staunch defender of figurative painting, she prefers to work in a figurative style, expressing ideas that are clear to ordinary people. Her main references in painting are the great patriarchs of universal painting, with a special fondness for the surrealists. Her career is rich in awards, exhibitions and an active life involved with art.
