This series of paintings "Standing up", born from the awe-inspiring landscapes of Temagami, Ontario during my art residency in June, 2024, embodies the theme 'Standing Up For: White Bear Forest.' It serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent deforestation and environmental degradation issue. The vibrant, bold acrylic hues and fluid, abstract forms in the composition are visually striking and a call to action, infusing the artwork with a sense of urgency and life while drawing attention. This urgency is a call for collective responsibility and action.
With this paintings, I hope to raise awareness about the consequences of deforestation and pollution and inspire a deeper responsibility toward preserving our beautiful world.
As someone who travels extensively across Canada, particularly drawn to its northern regions, I am continually captivated by the unique beauty of the northern wilderness. The pristine ecosystems of these remote areas, from their abundant freshwater sources to their clean air and untouched natural resources, play a crucial role in sustaining the overall health of our planet's environment. Biography
Vera Saiko is a contemporary Canadian artist. The artist enjoys creating paintings and drawings of people, landscapes, and flowers. The classic Russian drawing school is clearly visible in her charcoal and pastel drawings. But her paintings clearly stray from traditionalism. She blends vibrant hues with Northern minimalism, drawing inspiration from the Group of Seven and the majesty of the Canadian Shield. She precisely measures the relationship between color and the shape and size of the medium.
Vera Saiko teaches at world renowned Sheridan College, where she graduated at Fine Arts and Design programs, after having received formal drawing education in Russia and Ukraine. She is a member of the Ontario Society of Artists, Mississauga Art Society and Visual Arts Mississauga. Her works are in private collections in the USA, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Russia, and Ukraine. Saiko's paintings are on display in galleries in Toronto, Shanghai, Ningbo, and Shenzhen.
