Tales Frey is a contemporary award-winning artist who lives and works between Brazil and Portugal. Transdisciplinary artist, Frey produces works supported by visual and scenic arts. His artistic conceptions are centered on the body. In his work, life and art merge, and this blending frequently addresses queer politics. Some of his works are permanently part of public and private collections, among them, the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art and the Cerveira Biennial Museum in Portugal; MUNTREF – Museum of the National University of Tres de Febrero in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Pinacoteca João Nasser, Museum of Contemporary Art of Niterói, MAM RJ – Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro and Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo in Brazil.
Frey received the Vila Nova de Cerveira Acquisition Prize at the XIX International Art Biennial of Cerveira in 2017, Honorable Mention at the II International Biennial of Gaia Art in 2017, Honorable Mention at the 17th National Contemporary Art Salon of Guarulhos in 2021, Artist Award Revelation at Salão Contemporâneo of the 18th Salão de Artes Plásticas de Catanduva in 2014 and award for best costume designer at Aldeia FIT 2006 in São José do Rio Preto-SP, Brazil.
Tales Frey was born in 1982, in Brazil. Frey completed a PhD in Theater and Performative Studies at the University of Coimbra. He has a Masters in Art Studies with a specialization in Art Theory and Criticism from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and a specialization in Contemporary Artistic Practices from the same institution. He has a degree in Performing Arts with a degree in Theater Direction from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
