Sylvie Janssen is a contemporary Belgian sculptor. Initially drawn to drawing and painting, sculpture gradually emerged as a significant passion for her. Today, it has become her sole and complete artistic expression. Throughout her artistic journey, she has explored various techniques and materials, but clay remains her preferred medium. The tactile connection she feels when her hands touch the clay is particularly special to her. It is a magical moment when she places a fresh piece of earth onto her workbench, knowing that everything is yet to be created and brought to life.

The artist finds herself captivated by the human experience, particularly the gestures and expressions that emanate from individuals. She keenly observes and dissects each face, striving to capture the essence and unique journey of every life.

In recent years, she has incorporated the raku technique into her new sculptures. The element of chance that arises from this technique, particularly the unexpected cracks that form, enriches her work by imbuing it with random markings, much like the events that punctuate each person's life and leave their mark.
