Sophia Heeres is a contemporary Dutch artist, born in 1981 in Zuidlaren and raised in Schipborg, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Drentsche Aa River Valley. From 2002 to 2014, she lived and worked in Groningen, where she graduated in autonomous painting from the Academie Minerva in 2006. Currently, Sophia resides and works in Amstelveen.
Over time, she has developed a unique artistic style, characterized by powerful compositions in which each section is assigned its own distinct color. At the final stage of her process, lines are added, abstracting the work further by omitting light and dark contrasts, maintaining the simplicity of the subject. In her recent works, colors are more intricately blended, with each painting emerging from a search for balance between composition, background, and emotional color application.
Sophia's creative process is deeply rooted in observation, finding inspiration in life itself. For her, watching goes beyond seeing, sparking ideas from simplified forms in cities, nature, or even a glint of water. This careful observation leads to the creation of images in her own colorful visual language.
Her works are part of numerous collections, including public authorities, financial institutions, educational institutions, businesses, and private collectors.
