Koos Smit, a contemporary Dutch painter born in 1958 in Berkel-Rodenrijs, began his artistic journey as a fine painter before pursuing formal training. In 1981, he enrolled at the 'Free Academy of Rotterdam', continuing his studies at the 'Royal Academy of Visual Arts' in The Hague in 1983, where he completed his education in 1988.

Smit's talent and dedication to his craft were recognized early on, as evidenced by his inclusion in the annual guides "100 young Dutch painters" from 1996 to 1998. Since graduating, he has established himself as an independent visual artist, exhibiting his work at galleries, museums such as Museum Jan v/d Togt in Amstelveen, and various other venues both nationally and internationally.

In 2006, Smit's artwork was featured at the prestigious Art Fair Autotron in Rosmalen, further solidifying his reputation in the art world. The following year, Galerie Beeldkracht showcased his work at the renowned Dutch open-air art fair Art Laren.

Throughout his career, Smit has also undertaken commissioned projects, including his largest painting to date, a ceiling painting in a private home completed in 2005. Additionally, he has participated in live painting performances, such as during Museum Night at Galerie Mas in Rotterdam.

Smit's artwork has garnered acclaim and recognition, with pieces acquired by notable institutions including the World Trade Center in Rotterdam and De Woonmaatschappij Hoofddorp/Amsterdam.
