Drawing is a technique of visual representation on a flat support. The term "drawing" designates both the action of drawing, the resulting graphic work, and the shape of any object. It is also a representation on a surface of the shape (and possibly the light and shadow values) of an object or figure, rather than their color. There are a large number of drawing techniques: “Linear drawing” represents objects by their outlines, edges and some characteristic lines; beyond this limit, the drawing develops by representing the volume by shadows, often by means of hatching, incorporates colors, and joins, without clear transition, the painting.

Settimia Taroux, a contemporary French artist, channels her creative energy into the exploration of portraiture, anatomy, and the human form. Working primarily with acrylic or watercolor, she infuses her compositions with recycled materials imbued with feminine symbolism, such as tights and thread. Through a unique fusion of figurative painting and abstract material effects, Taroux creates layered artworks that oscillate between the carnal and the symbolic.

Born in 1982 in Brittany, Taroux's passion for painting, particularly portraiture, blossomed from an early age. Throughout her artistic studies, she honed her skills, with two distinct practices emerging as her favorites.

The first practice revolves around figurative painting, often featuring humans depicted on a 1:1 scale, adorned with geometric and floral patterns. Concurrently, Taroux delved into the concept of 'skin', leading her to experiment with women's tights as the sole material for her plastic research. This exploration culminated in the creation of the 'pictorial seams' series, where the fabric stretched over frames metaphorically represents the human body, its muscles, tendons, and epidermis.

Over time, Taroux's dual practices converged, intertwining paint with stretched, perforated, and darned fabric. The resulting artworks blur the boundaries between abstraction and figuration, as well as materiality and representation. Through layers that mingle and obscure, Taroux invites viewers to contemplate the complexities of the human condition, from physical and psychological wounds to mortality and fragility.

Her compositions serve as a poignant exploration of the human experience, anchored in the tactile and imperfect, yet endlessly fascinating, nature of existence. By intertwining fascination with appearances and the undeniable presence of the carnal, Taroux's art transcends mere representation, offering profound insights into the essence of being.
