Paper & Paint
While studying psychology, he read an article that stayed with him and inspired his art. This article was about the difference in the amount of information that people in the modern era have to process compared to people in earlier times. It stated that modern people have to process more information in one day than someone from the Middle Ages did in their entire life. While our brains have remained the same. This theme about information (processing) is reflected in his paintings, which are full of texts and images from various media.
His paintings contain information about accidents, war, genocide, sex, love, daily worries, and all the topics that appear in the media and literature, which he randomly incorporates into his paintings. During the process his focus is not on the content but on the shape, tones and color. However, he does use fascinating images where necessary to increase the intensity of the work.
His artwork is a combination of acrylic paint and paper, such as clippings from newspapers, magazines, comics and posters, giving each portrait a unique look. Building a portrait with scraps of paper requires a lot of work. Finding the right tone and color among stacks of newspapers and magazines is an intensive search. In addition, he continuously experiments with different combinations of paper and paint.
His fascination with the human appearance and everything that lies behind it also plays a role in his artwork. His goal is to reveal the hidden beauty of every face and take the viewer on a journey of discovery. He is fascinated by the unique characteristics of each individual and draws inspiration from photographs that serve as the basis for his portraits. By using a mix of colors, textures and images, he creates layered works of art.
By applying resin or lacquer as a finish, his paintings acquire a beautiful shine, a variation in depth and a feeling of durability.
