The collage series "Horror Vacui" is inspired by Latin etymology, deliberately rejecting empty space while intricately exploring themes of time, addiction, and consumerism. Each handmade artwork mirrors the artist's defiance of emptiness, weaving a unique narrative that offers a metaphorical journey through layers of time, societal reflections, and personal experiences. The source material, meticulously cut from magazines, newspapers, catalogs, and supermarket coupons, undergoes obsessive collection and cataloging. Nothing is printed but reworked, repositioned, and transformed. The series blends post-war American and English Pop Art lessons and experiments with the contemporary world, inviting viewers to a disorienting contemplation.

"Fiori Feroci" is an ongoing series combining two elements: flowers and men. The literal translation in English would be "ferocious flowers", something delicate and universally praised for its beauty and infinite variation, intrinsic fragility - symbol par excellence of the transience of life, and therefore the undisputed protagonist of «vanitas» in the history of art. If you repeat it quickly or write it in a hurry, the title would turn into the Italian words "flowers and fags". Collages made with material destined for waste, flowers collected from mother's garden or from the endless fields of the internet and cut meticulously, sometimes violently. This series, by placing these two main elements side by side, wants to question itself and linger in the contemplation of the combinations.

Biography
Romeo Madonna (London, 1987) is a collage artist based in Florence where he currently lives and works.
A self-taught visual artist, collage - both digital and analog - represents his favorite means of expression, the investigative method of his research and the synthesis of the philosophy underlying his artistic practice.
A film student at the Roma Tre University with the aim of becoming a screenwriter, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts because he was obsessed with engraving and printing techniques. His professional experiences in the field of mixology and luxury retail contributed significantly to defining the traits and themes of his artistic identity, fusing a digital approach with traditional techniques.
Visions of time, beauty, identity and death are recurring themes in his works.

Come ripromesso ho caricato un nuovo collage - Vertigo - nella serie Horror Vacui. È una serie che io reputo semplicissima, oserei dire banale, essendo basata sulla ripetizione (ossessiva) sia all’interno di ogni singola opera che in generale come tema della collezione… Ma trovo che al contempo una ripetizione compulsiva possa stratificarsi di significati. Reputo il collage come LA forma d’arte in grado di esprimere visivamente la complessità e la simultaneità dei concetti e della condizione umana proprio perché utilizza immagini che già esistono, quindi portando con sé un significato passato, ma esse si proiettano nel futuro utilizzando una composizione presente. Vi terrò aggiornati!

Da ieri sono ufficialmente approdato su Artmajeur e sono rimasto piacevolmente colpito dalla cura dei dettagli - come la catalogazione delle opere - e da altre funzionalità che ho incontrato solo su questo marketplace! Sto lavorando per fotografare e caricare nei prossimi giorni delle nuove opere che espanderanno le mie serie.
