Roger Selden (New York, 1945) is an American painter known for his dynamic, gestural works that evolved from his deep exploration of form, color, and material. He studied at the Tyler School of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1966. Soon after, he moved to Rome and in 1968, completed his Master of Fine Arts at the same institution, marking the start of his artistic career.

During his time in Rome, Selden was influenced by Cy Twombly, from whom he learned the beauty of non-color, texture, and the passage of time, elements that became central to his work. His art, initially centered on painting, eventually expanded into sculpture, reflecting a growing emphasis on physicality and materiality. His use of rapid, energetic gestures became a defining feature of his pieces, highlighting the dynamism of his creative process.

Since 1968, Selden has held numerous solo exhibitions in both Europe and the United States and exhibited at the prestigious Galleria Naviglio Modern Art. His work has been showcased at many of the world’s leading art fairs, including Art Basel, Fiac in Paris, Arte Fiera in Bologna, Chicago Art Fair, Art Cologne, Arco Madrid, and Art Forum in Zurich.
