Biography
Robert Winslow, born in 1950, is a versatile contemporary American artist whose career spans multiple disciplines and media. Raised in Los Angeles and Phoenix, Arizona, he studied fine art at the University of California-Irvine, Arizona State University, and the University of Arizona, where he honed his skills in sculpture and painting.
A master sculptor, Winslow works with a variety of materials, including marble, granite, optical glass, wood, bronze, and mixed media. His paintings are equally compelling, known for their powerful textures and thought-provoking themes. Winslow seamlessly blends his sculptural expertise with his painting practice, often drawing on Jungian archetypes for inspiration. His art is also deeply influenced by pre-Columbian art, inspired by his extensive travels to Mexico.
Winslow’s creative philosophy emphasizes the primacy of artistic vision over medium: "The medium is not the art. Art inspires the medium." This belief allows him to explore a wide range of subjects, from landscapes and figurative works to abstract and conceptual themes.
His sculptures are featured in numerous prestigious collections, both corporate and private, across the United States and internationally. Notable institutions housing his work include Helene Curtis Corporation, The Chicago Board Options Exchange, GATX, Siemens, Loyola University in Chicago, Scottsdale Center for the Arts, Big Sky Town Center in Montana, the Lizzadro Lapidary Museum, and the Los Angeles Museum of Modern Art.

"Unveiling the Totem" Have you driven by the Museum and noticed construction on the southeast corner? We are making space for a mega-sculpture by artist Robert Winslow called “Totem”. The sculpture was donated to the Museum by John Paul DeJoria.
