My work is greatly influenced by my experience as a New Zealander and by the affinity I feel for the history and mythical landscapes surrounding me. I am fascinated by our spiritual relationship with the universe and this inspires my art work

I have been painting for many years and discovered encaustic about three years ago, Encaustic has been by far the most rewarding medium I have ever painted with.My work with encaustic seems like a fusion of many of my past art explorations.

There is a lustiness of material and a sense of love with the medium that is integral to my enjoyment of the process and to the success of any piece. It is palpable, supple and opulent and also allows the delight of using a fragrant by product of the interaction of bees with flowers. Using Beeswax provides a spiritual ambiance.

I never start with a completely determined image you miss out on your pure powers of creation: I like to let the painting take its natural course and guide me along the way: Unpredictable and surprising effects happen frequently and there is a constant interplay between transparency, opacity, and layering which I love,

My paintings are about the past often haunting, mysterious and about what lies beneath the surface. I love painting layers and layers creating a transparency from one layer to the next.
I am always experimenting with surfaces and textures. I love to explore the unexpected juxtapositions that happen while painting: the layers of paint must be luminous and mysterious.
"I never know where a painting will end up. The backgrounds and moods emerge and change as the work progresses.

My goal is to create paintings that are challenging and provocative.
