wilderness (2024) Painting by Qiang Chen

      ChenQiang, a contemporary Chinese painter and sculptor, was born in Hainan Province, China. From 1989 to 1993, he studied at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, China, under the supervision of famous teachers such as Xu Jianbai and Liang Mingcheng, and was invited to participate in the creation of domestic oil paintings and public art with various themes for many times. In 2013, the solo exhibition "Asking for Directions" held in Nanjing, China, received wide attention. The oil paintings "Hundred War Stars", "Horse Raising Meeting" and "Nanxiong Meeting" were collected by major museums, and the oil painting "Village Meeting" was collected by the Asia (Hong Kong) Art Foundation. In May 2014 to participate in the fourth section of the Guangzhou Art Trade Fair, in 2016 to participate in the Shanghai Art Trade Fair, in 2021 to participate in the art of Shenzhen Art trade fair, a number of works by Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, the United States, Australia, South Korea, Switzerland, Japan private collection. In June 2024, he created a large theme relief of Central South University.

      ChenQiang's works show his profound artistic foundation and deep understanding of art, through which one can feel his unique artistic perspective and insight into life. His works use rough, free, powerful brushstrokes and smooth and implicit colors to pursue an internal tension in the picture, to separate the spirituality of real things from the form, and to create with different media. His works seek harmony in contradiction and confrontation. In this way, audiences can think deeply about life and art and explore the meaning of art.
