Hontongnon Gilbert YINMADI est un artiste peintre sculpteur autodidacte pluridimensionnel béninois, né le 7 juin 1980 à Porto-Novo. Passionné de dessin depuis mon enfance, je m'exprime en utilisant la carte du Bénin. Je la dessine, puis la transforme en personnage que je mets en mouvement pour communiquer. Mes œuvres incarnent le Bénin tout entier, du nord au sud, représentant le territoire des hommes vodoun, des rois Béhanzin, Toffa, Bio guéra, et de tous les mânes de mes ancêtres auxquels je rends hommage à travers mon travail.Les personnages dans mes peintures représentent à mes yeux les Béninois à 100%. Ma peinture est parfois tatouée de signes géomantiques, c'est-à-dire le (fa). Tout cela vise à donner du dynamisme à l'œuvre et à promouvoir ma culture. À chaque fois que l'on découvre mes œuvres, je souhaite qu'on porte un regard direct sur mon pays, le Bénin, et qu'on pense à sa culture, son histoire et ses traditions.Mon travail reflète mon identité culturelle, et mon style me permet de m'exprimer avec fierté et amour pour ma nation. Je me sens totalement chez moi. Je peins des sujets de la vie quotidienne, j'enseigne, j'interroge et parfois je dénonce. J'ai déjà participé à quelques expositions collectives à Cotonou, Lomé, au Nigeria et au Ghana. J'utilise la peinture acrylique et le pastel à huile sur toile, papier, et également des objets de récupération.
