Glossy finish
Apart from its exceptional thickness, the fiber paper is composed of an alpha-cellulose base without acid and it is covered with barium sulphate, and a microporous layer absorption enhancing pigments during printing. Philippe Petit, born in 1954, is a self-taught artist living and working in France. From his teenage years, he demonstrated an exceptional talent for drawing and painting, selling his first paintings at the age of 12. Coming from a family of artists, he however abandoned painting during his professional life, only to find it again in retirement, overtaken by the "virus" of creation.
Philippe trains through online courses with renowned artists like Shane Wolf. To refine his technique, he made copies of masters such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci before truly embarking on his own works. His preferred medium includes oil on linen, pastel on paper, compote on paper, charcoal, pencil and chalk on paper.
His style in oil painting is primarily impressionistic, with a touch of abstraction, although his studies are deeply rooted in academicism. Using the "grisaille" technique, as Caravaggio and Rubens did, he creates works that explore impressionist landscapes and portraits of famous figures. His classic drawings, made with the so-called “three pencils” technique (sanguine, charcoal, white chalk), are sometimes enhanced with colors to add an additional dimension.
Philippe's influences are multiple and varied, ranging from Monet and Rembrandt to Rouault, Shane Wolf and Pissarro. He approaches his creations with an impressionist sensitivity and technical mastery that pay homage to his masters while providing a modern and personal touch.
Philippe Petit's works are a compilation of the characteristics of realism, enriched by a touch of abstract impressionism which makes them contemporary and captivating. His work reflects a deep exploration of human forms and landscapes, marking a constant evolution in his artistic journey.
