Native to southeastern Russia and northeast China the Amur Leopard is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. In 2007, only 19–26 wild Amur leopards were estimated
to survive. Poaching of leopards is a main threat to their survival as Chinese traders buy leopard skins. Leopards are killed by local Russians who hunt entirely illegally without licenses for hunting
nor guns. Often the leopards are snared in traps set for the deer, their main food source. Human started fires, deforestation and development are all eroding away at the small areas of their habitat.
There are less than 57 Amur Leopard remaining in the wild.
