Paul was initially a self taught artist, drawing in pencil and pen and ink from high school onward. He soon took up watercolor painting for some years before breaking into oil painting. He worked in law enforcement for 40 years continuing to paint in his early years on the job. Pressure and long hours were not conducive to painting. After retiring his wife Cindy said you should get back into art, you always loved it. She gave him pastel lessons with Distinguished artist Reif Erickson of Auburn, California, and Paul studied with him for a year. He loved the pastel medium for its immediacy and color. He took further workshops with other noted pastel artists and developed his own style and confidence in the medium.
Paul Harman is a Signature artist with the Pastel Society of the West Coast. He is driven by a love of the pastel medium and a passion for self-expression through art. His pastel works are noted for their realism and attention to detail. His unique style, technique and joy in painting in pastels drives him to create beautiful landscape paintings.
Paul strives to capture life’s memorable moments when traveling throughout California and other states. His subjects vary from landscapes to seascapes, local wildlife and historical barns. He loves to showcase the way light can bring a landscape to life. He is pleased when his work strikes a chord with a viewer.
Paul enjoys using vibrant colors and catching the light of the sun, balancing his values to make his work an excellent choice for the discerning collector of fine art.
