Born in 1956, Charlotte Tuquoi, aka Pastels Et Velours, lives and works in France. She specializes in pastel on paper, a medium that allows her to capture the finesse and liveliness of her subjects. Influenced by masters such as Albrecht Dürer, the Flemish painters, Frans Hals, Édouard Manet, Gustave Caillebotte, Rosa Bonheur, Maurice-Quentin de La Tour and Daniel Houard, her style is characterized by great attention to detail and deep sensitivity .
After studying history and art history at the Sorbonne from 1977 to 1980, where she obtained a master's degree, Charlotte worked as an editorial secretary and journalist at La Gazette de l'Hôtel Drouot. Despite her lifelong passion for painting, she only dared to take the plunge upon her arrival in the southwest of France, in Pau. She then joined a small municipal painting workshop in Bordes from 1999 to 2004, where she experimented with various techniques.
In 2005, Charlotte enrolled at the Bayonne Art School, where she took courses in drawing, live models and oil painting until 2009. It was during this period that she refined his talent and developed a real passion for dry pastel.
Since 2013 and the creation of Pastels and Velours, she has devoted herself exclusively to this technique. Her works mainly represent animals - domestic, working, productive - but she started by painting frogs. Children at the beach are also a great source of inspiration for her.
His work is distinguished by a rich texture and tactile rendering that recalls his classical influences while adding a contemporary touch. Charlotte Tuquoi's creations, exhibited in several galleries and private collections, are appreciated for their delicacy and precision.
