Nadar, real name Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, was a 19th century French photographer, writer and caricaturist. He was born on April 6, 1820 in Paris and died on March 21, 1910 in the same city.
Nadar started out as a famous caricaturist, publishing his cartoons in renowned newspapers and magazines of the time. As an artist, he rubbed shoulders with many intellectuals and personalities of his time, including Charles Baudelaire and Honoré de Balzac.
However, it was in the field of photography that Nadar left a lasting mark. In 1854, he opened the first photography studio in Paris, becoming one of the pioneers of professional photography.
