Dear Friends,
I too appreciated Javed’s photographs. Looking at his website, some of the photos made me curious.
One of them showed a thoroughly wrecked, thrashed to trash interior of a home. This was Javed’s family home in Gujarat after the riots in 2002. Whilst telling me about the experience, he described how a home full of books had been systemically wrecked. Every single book had been defaced. It was fascinating to him, that people should hate so much. It was not enough to just destroy, but the need to tear pages in a very orderly fashion, into smaller and smaller bits.
It made me imagine the chaos that started the effort and then the gradual cooling off, almost meditative way a person /s may have spent many hours finishing the job in this most orderly fashion.
Chaos and order working hand in hand in mob violence and madness.
Javed! Thank you! These are lovely. The one with the two village belle's holding hands...lovely...especiallyto enter the gender perspective and creationism with chaos as divine...
and the crowd on the jeep- it would make a great assignment piece to have students visually match the structure you have shot...
