From the mysterious realm of the unconscious comes this intriguing little animal - a pichula born from the busy imagination of Andre de Miranda. Says Miranda, "I lived for four years in Tres Lagoas, in the interior of Mato Grosso in east-central Brazil. This series related to animals was developed in this period of my life. It is an arid region of fantastic beauty and a very hot climate. They are creatures inspired in the animals that I saw, but in truth they are creatures of the unconscious, they are the face of solitude, of fear, in short the infinity of animals we create internally."
This work is executed using linocut techniques, excavating the design before printing it in offset typographic ink on paper. The smooth surface and homogenous nature of the linoleum allows for a starker black and white contrast. Records show that in Brazil, the art of engraving and printing was performed as early as the 16th century, when the country was first discovered. People would use their own bodies to press the designs thus adorning themselves for festivities as well as war.
The artist suggests that the linograph should be protected from direct sunlight and should not be stored in a humid environment. Whatever material comes in contact with the linograph must have a neutral PH. The frame should not include a glass covering as this may cause eventual damage to the paper.
In 2003 this linocut was awarded 8th place in the International Print competition, as well as the Caliu Prize out of Olot, Spain. This is the first print in a limited edition of 30

FORMAÇÃO
Iniciou sua atividade artística em 1975, na Academia de Arte e Cultura Elzira Amábile, Rio de Janeiro, sendo discípulo de Genia Walisberg.
Em 1976 estudou desenho e pintura com Jemile Diban.
Iniciou seus trabalhos em xilogravura em 1978 no ateliê do gravador Ciro Fernandes onde conviveu com diversos artistas, entre eles Augusto Rodrigues, Frank Schaeffer, Teixeira Mendes, Tilde Canti, Marcelo Soares, J. Borges, iniciando assim, a xilogravura.
Também estudou xilogravura com Marcelo Soares, J. Borges e Anna Carolina e gravura em metal com Marcelo Frazão e Heloísa Pires Ferreira.
Estudou Desenho de Artes Gráficas e Desenho de Propaganda no Senai/RJ.
Morou de 1993 a 1997 na cidade de Três Lagoas, MS, onde ministra oficinas de Xilogravura em diversas cidades e na Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul.
Foi professor de desenho no Senai da Construção Civil Rio de Janeiro em 1999.
Em 2001 leciona Desenho, Pintura e Gravura no Corredor das Artes, Rio de Janeiro.
Fez diversas palestras sobre gravura em Porto Alegre, Curitiba, São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro.
É membro do Núcleo de Gravura do Rio Grande do Sul e do Grupo Gravura ()
Residiu na cidade de Curitiba de 2004 a abril de 2008.
Mora e trabalha na cidade do Rio de Janeiro.
