Glossy finish
Apart from its exceptional thickness, the fiber paper is composed of an alpha-cellulose base without acid and it is covered with barium sulphate, and a microporous layer absorption enhancing pigments during printing. A pure white color, non-yellowing to light, this paper is especially designed for resistance and aging. Fascinated by people and everyday life, Michel JEAN roams the streets of Paris with his sketchbook to capture moments of truth, moments of naturalness. All these collected drawings allow him to build scenes of life on the canvas where the spectator has the feeling of rediscovering the reality of what surrounds him. The precise style with which Michel JEAN depicts these scenes facilitates this dialogue with reality.
In his studio, he enters a parallel world made of colors and movements.
The work color is essential in the work of Michel JEAN, and dictates the relationship between the artist and the material. Indeed, he seeks above all color contrasts, often bright. The meeting point of these tones is then the object of an energetic work of the brush. The painting seems to be in the grip of a struggle where the colors clash, mingle, tangle, to finally give all its relief to the canvas.
It is therefore up to through the color work that Michel JEAN plays on contrasting relationships. Oppositions of colors, but also opposition of gestures. If the background of his paintings is generally borrowed from structured calm, the subject of the painting is more alive, animated by a generous movement which captures the attention of the spectator.
