Michel Poirier was born in 1946 in Longaulnay (a small village in Welsh Brittany, France). He now has several years of photographic practice, after training in scientific and industrial photography at the Oceanographic Laboratory of Banyuls-sur-mer (66) in 1978.
Since then, his lens has taken a “turn” towards surreal photography. A long and meticulous laboratory work or digital processing gives it life. But it is flashes of imagination that conceive it. The photos presented here are completely in the tradition of surrealist photography, in the manner of René Magritte, Man Ray or Gilbert Garcin. Michel POIRIER's montages play on the discrepancy, the incongruity of situations, the trick of images. The author destabilizes the visitor to show another reality, amusing or distressing. At a time when digital photography allows falsification thanks to computer programs, Michel POIRIER, for his part, continues to work on film using film, using caches and personally intervening in the development of his negatives. Some of his works date back to 1978 when Photoshop did not yet exist. His original “objective” was to assimilate photographic techniques so that he could overcome the limitations of photography to create surreal images.
His photos have been published in: ELLE, Le Pélerin, Editions Bordas, Editions Nathan, Galerie Dupont de Nemours in Switzerland…• He has collaborated as a "freelancer" with regional daily newspapers, such as: Midi-Libre, l'Indépendant and the Depeche du Midi
