A pure white color, non-yellowing to light, this paper is especially designed for resistance and aging. Brigitte Thonhauser-Merk is a contemporary Austrian artist whose work embodies the maxim of Eugène Delacroix: "A picture should above all be a feast for the eyes." Based in Perchtoldsdorf, Brigitte employs a diverse array of techniques, honed through courses at the Adult Education Center in Vienna's 9th district and private lessons with renowned artists. Her inspirations are multifaceted, drawing from the natural world, everyday objects, and the impressions gathered from her extensive travels around the globe, as well as the influence of past masters.
In her studio, Brigitte creates imaginative and personal artworks that transcend mere representation of nature or people. Instead, she offers an abstracted vision of nature, often with an ornamental character. Her original fascination with line work is evident in many of her pieces, reflecting her cultural heritage from Viennese Art Nouveau, intertwined with modernist influences she absorbed during numerous stays in France. Recently, Brigitte has been experimenting with painting techniques that incorporate controlled chance, adding a dynamic and unpredictable element to her work.
Brigitte's artistic journey is marked by participation in numerous solo and group exhibitions across major European cities, as well as in China, Dubai, Tel Aviv, and New York. Her talent has earned her several international accolades, including first prize in the illustration category at the Global Art Award in Dubai in November 2017 for her piece "Yellow Bouquet."
In addition to her artistic endeavors, Brigitte has a strong academic background. She completed her studies at the University of Vienna, earning a Master's degree in Romance Studies and a Bachelor's degree in Art History in 2014. This academic foundation enriches her artistic practice, providing a deep understanding of historical and cultural contexts that inform her work.
Brigitte Thonhauser-Merk's art is a testament to her ability to blend traditional influences with contemporary techniques, resulting in works that are visually captivating and rich in cultural resonance. Her continuous experimentation and commitment to her craft ensure that her art remains a vibrant and evolving feast for the eyes.
