Cette peinture fait partie de la série "magnificence des arbres" où l'homme est ici en méditation, poser sur un banc. Il s'arrête, il pense et soigne les plaies du monde en pensée. Devant lui, une masse d'eau, inspirée des étangs de l'abbaye de Soignes, noire comme le pétrole que l'homme utilise et qui lui 'permet' de détruire la biosphère. Ici, l'homme n'intervient pas, le pétrole n'est qu'une surface noire inoffensive. Les arbres sont luxuriants et veillent sur le méditant.
