Au delà d'une "simple" vierge noire, la toile "Virgo cum Infante" est traitée à la manière des icônes religieuses avec les lettres MP QY surmontées de la tilde, qui indique le côté sacré de ce nom "Mère de Dieu".

Toutes les femmes sont des êtres à honorer de la même façon que la vierge Marie, parce qu'elles sont symboles de création, d'amour et de douceur. Et tous les enfants de ce monde sont des fils de Dieu.
Ainsi ce tableau soulève la problématique des questions raciales, ethniques.
